I created a udev rule to add the printer under /dev/usb/ml2510īUS="usb", SYSFS="3V61BKEL624688W.", NAME="%k", SYMLINK+="usb/ml2510", MODE="0777", GROUP="users"Ģ - Call the printer whatever you want and click "Continue"ģ - Under device, select the printer if it found it, otherwise select LPT#1 (I think that's the name)Ĥ - If we select the actual printer the next screen should take us to model selection, if not, just select Samsung, cdroot/Linux/i386/at_root/usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertosamsungspl /usr/libexec/cups/filter/ cdroot/Linux/noarch/at_opt/share/ppd/ML-2510spl2.ppd /usr/share/cups/model/Ĭp. We'll need to copy a couple of files over:Ĭdroot/Linux/noarch/at_opt/share/ppd/ML-2510spl2.ppdĬdroot/Linux/i386/at_root/usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertosamsungspl (there also looks to be one for x86_64, which I take to be the 64bit version)Ĭopy the files into the following directories (make sure you are the root user)Ĭp. If you connect the printer via USB there is a little confusion because the printer seems to show up on the parallel port, but not to worry, we can still communicate with it via the cups parallel interface.Įxtract the tarball, it will place all files in a dir called cdroot. It's not necessary to run the installer, as it installs the multi-function peripheral/printer (mfp) interface which doesn't seem to work. Here's how I got it working:ĭownload the latest "Unified Linux Driver" from Samsung: However it was a great learning experience. It looks like it was just permission problems. Has anyone seen this kind of strange behavior before? It almost seems that the printer is reporting that it's a parallel port printer while it's connected via usb. I made sure that usb printer support was built into the kernel. The printer does have both a parallel port and usb connection. Under cups the printer is detected on the parallel port when it's connected via usb. Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has had any luck getting a Samsung ML-2510 printer to work under Gentoo.
